WICK LEATHERS

About the Brand:

Wick Leathers is a story-forward fashion label rooted in the belief that clothing should evoke feeling, carry memory, and reflect the complexities of the human experience. The brand was founded with a vision of creating garments that move with time and are shaped by life rather than trends. Every piece is designed to serve as a personal artifact that is expressive, enduring, and intimately worn.

The Wick Leathers aesthetic is grounded in a raw, tactile sensibility. Garments feature sculptural, often layered silhouettes and weathered finishes that convey both strength and vulnerability. The color palette leans into earthy and moody tones, such as rust, ash, indigo, plum, and faded lilac, evoking bruises, shadows, and fading florals. Michelle’s designs embrace imperfection and contrast, finding harmony in asymmetry, rough edges, and unexpected textures. The result is clothing that is emotionally resonant, physically compelling, and unapologetically human.

Her inspiration comes from the rebellious energy of 60s and 70s musicians, visual artists, and counterculture icons, figures who used fashion as a medium for truth-telling and self-definition. Nature and the human body also inform her work, particularly the cycles of damage and renewal. Each piece is designed to hold those layers of influence, becoming not only a garment but, rather, a gesture of presence and individuality.

What makes Wick Leathers truly distinct is its devotion to leather as a narrative material. Michelle uses leather not as a decorative element, but as a living surface capable of absorbing memory and movement. Every garment is hand-finished and carries its own identity, reflecting the labor, intention, and emotional weight behind it. With slow production methods and a deep commitment to craftsmanship, the brand is as much about longevity as it is about style. Wick Leathers creates pieces that challenge the wearer to feel and embrace the imperfect, the beautiful, and the real.

About the Designer:

Michelle Blackwelder is the founder and creative mind behind Wick Leathers, an independent fashion label based in Greensboro, North Carolina. A lifelong maker with a deep respect for traditional craft, Michelle gravitated toward leather for its tactile honesty, natural imperfections, and its capacity to evolve.

Her approach to design is both personal and expressive, deeply rooted in memory, shaped by texture, and guided by a desire to create pieces that feel worn, storied, and deeply human. Michelle’s work is heavily inspired by the bold, emotive spirit of the 1960s and 70s, which were decades defined by music, movement, and cultural rebellion. At Wick Leathers, Michelle channels those influences into garments that speak to resilience, self-expression, and timeless individuality.

For Michelle, leather isn't just a material. Rather, it is a medium for storytelling. Every mark, scar, and stitch reflects her belief that clothing should not only protect, but provoke emotion, hold memory, and grow with the person who wears it.
